The South Yorkshire Police Band is a proud and distinguished brass band with a rich history of providing high-quality music for both ceremonial and community events. Based in Hellaby, Rotherham, the band has become an integral part of the South Yorkshire community, offering musical excellence while representing the South Yorkshire Police at prestigious events across the region and beyond.

🌐 Our Mission

The South Yorkshire Police Band's mission is to promote community engagement through music and to support the work of South Yorkshire Police by performing at public events, civic ceremonies, and charity fundraisers. The band aims to uphold the traditions of brass banding while inspiring the next generation of musicians.

📍 Where We Are Based

The band is based in Hellaby, Rotherham, and rehearses twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8pm to 10pm in a modern, air-conditioned facility. The rehearsal space provides an excellent environment for musicians to come together, practice, and prepare for contests and performances.

🎶 Our Band Structure

The South Yorkshire Police Band is a traditional British brass band consisting of:

  • Bb Cornets
  • Eb Soprano Cornet
  • Flugelhorn
  • Tenor Horns
  • Baritones
  • Euphonium
  • Trombones
  • Bass/Tuba (Eb and Bb)
  • Tuned and Kit Percussion

This classic brass band formation allows the band to perform a wide variety of music, from traditional marches and hymns to contemporary compositions and popular tunes.

🏆 Achievements and Competitions

The band competes in the Second Section of the Nationally Graded Brass Band Championships and has seen significant success in recent years. Notable achievements include:

  • Yorkshire Regional 2nd Section Champions
  • Winners of the Leicester Brass Band Association 2nd Section Contest

Under the expert leadership of Musical Director Leigh Baker, the band continues to build on its contest successes and aims to achieve even greater heights in future competitions.
